The Nike LeBron X was the first signature shoe for LeBron James to put him head and shoulders ahead in terms of sneaker sales. In 2012 LeBron sales reached a whooping $300 million while other lines reached $50 million for Kobe Bryant, $35 million for Kevin Durant, $25 million for Derrick Rose. Back in December we mentioned how this season it’s 35% better in revenue and 18% better in units sold… despite the fact LBJ is avoiding his own shoes. The complete 2013 sneaker sales number are finally available. Things do seem to be slowing down a bit… LeBron James still leads the pack, but the numbers for the Nike LeBron line are exactly the same… $300 million. Sales for Durant’s Nike signature sneakers jumped 400% last year from $35 million to $175 million in the U.S. The rest is pretty much the same… Kobe’s still at $50 million. Nike Basketball is paying tribute to the unique flavor of New Orleans with the 2014 NOLA Gumbo League Collection, including three shoes: LEBRON 11, KOBE 9 Elite and KD VI. A “gumbo” in the cultural sense, New Orleans is an eclectic mix of characters, music, cuisine and art. Inspired by the flavors and stories of the Big Easy, Nike cooked up a bold mix of technical innovation, aesthetic flair and old-fashioned New Orleans traditions for some of the world’s best basketball players: LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant. Inspired by the fearsome alligator, the king of the bayou, the LEBRON 11 Gator King is a bold expression of royalty and power. Gators, often a symbol of protection in New Orleans culture, influence graphic textures throughout the shoe. Invisible to the naked eye, hand-drawn patterns come to life as the Hyperposite bucket of the shoe glows in the dark. The musings of majestic color in deep purples, greens and gold are derived from the “Rex” – king of carnival celebrations. Leading the charge for Nike Basketball with special interior lining graphics is the LEBRON 11 Gator King including a commemorative tarot card and special edition box with purchase of each shoe. The 2014 NOLA Gumbo League Collection will be served up on nikestore.com and at select retail locations on February 14.Read the rest of this entry »

The Christmas colorways of Nike Basketball signature shoes are an annual tradition. This year, three wintertime stories are linked by special logo lacelocks that connect to create custom signature ornaments. LeBron James brings the Xmas spirit to the beach with this special edition of the LEBRON 11. A chilly mint color takes on a Christmas green with bold red accents and a frosty translucent outsole. The unique geometry of a snowflake combines with the royal palm to create a kaleidoscopic “palmsicle” print. The Christmas colorways will be available at select retail stores and nike.com on December 26th, 2013.

Nike’s unbeatable 1-2 punch, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James both rendezvoused with Reebok earlier in their legendary careers. In particular, each star laced up Player Exclusive colorways of Allen Iverson’s iconic Reebok Question sneaker – Kobe during his epic season of sneaker free agency in 2003 and LeBron during his time as the most coveted incoming endorser at St. Vincent-St. Mary. It’s been ten years since these styles hit the court and Reebok has never made either available to the public… until now. In a collaboration that could’ve easily been titled “Once Upon A Time”, Packer Shoes and Reebok hook up once again in order to create these two limited edition Reebok Questions titled “For Player Use Only“. The Packer Shoes x Reebok Question “For Players Use Only” pack will be available at Packer Shoes in-store and online starting tomorrow. The price has been set at $300. Nike is very good at keeping things under wraps. Although we did a couple of looks at the LeBron X P.S. Elite, it’s now time for the Swoosh to officially announce the new Elite series. Modern-day athletic superheroes LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant showcase an uncanny skill-set, which is now complemented by footwear boasting Kevlar aramid, Carbon Fiber and articulated foam. King James’ elite version drafts off the rare Carbonado diamond, a virtually indestructible stone said to derive from an ancient supernova, the most explosive force in the universe. The LEBRON X PS ELITE is designed to be stronger, offering the highest level of performance for James in the post season. The shoe builds on the innovative advances of the LEBRON X and takes it to a new level with:
- Carbon fiber-reinforced mid-foot wings for excellent lateral stability
- Kevlar aramid-reinforced Nike Flywire technology for consistent lock-down through the midfoot
- Kevlar aramid laces resist stretching for a more consistent fit
- Articulated foam tongue provides impact protection and minimizes lace pressure
All three Nike ELITE Series 2.0 basketball shoes – the LEBRON X PS ELITE, KOBE 8 SYSTEM ELITE, KD V ELITE – are available at select retail locations and online at Nike.com beginning April 27th, 2013.Read the rest of this entry »
