The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team, representing the University of Kentucky, is the winningest in the history of college basketball, both in all-time wins and all-time winning percentage. Kentucky’s all-time record currently stands at 2089?649 (.763). Kentucky also leads all schools in total NCAA tournament appearances with 52, is first in NCAA tournament wins with 110. On April 1, 2009, John Calipari was formally announced as Kentucky’s 18th men’s head basketball coach, replacing Billy Gillispie. On April 2, 2012, the Wildcats won the NCAA Tournament Championship.
Nike partnership
In July 2011 it was announced that the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team will be sporting LeBron James branded Nike gear the upcoming season thanks to a sponsorship deal with the Miami Heat superstar. This extension also applies to the Ohio State Buckeyes, which has been sponsored by LeBron James for years now, and the Miami Hurricanes. John Calipari has touted his ties to LeBron James in the past (James showed up for a Wildcats game at Rupp Arena last season) and has built a program tailored to elite one-and-done hyper-talents, the kind of players who are seeking NBA-level success as quickly as possible. No player is more symbolic of that ability than James, who excelled in the league as a preps-to-pros rookie unlike any player before him.
