Until last night LeBron James’ MVP shoes were plain and simple, one would say. It started classy with the Witness MVP LeBron VI, followed by MVPupppets LeBron VII and last year’s Championship Pack, which apart from the distribution method was executed flawlessly. However, seems like there was an alternative to the Miami Heat inspired LeBron 9 MVP in the form of the What the LeBron 9. It ended up as a F&F Player Exclusive, though. This was sort of a training ground for the NIKE LEBRON X “WHAT THE MVP” that was unveiled last night. Both shoes came to life by combining different styles into one colorway. The major difference between these two is the fact that the 9′s used the same colorway for both shoes unlike the X’s where the left and the right shoe are actually a different design.

There’s an ongoing trend where shoes are getting more and more expensive with each year. This affects all shoes and is especially visible in the signature products market. Apparently the average retail price of a men’s sneakers increased 7% in 2012. Not so long ago LeBron James’ main signature shoes cost $160, now it’s $180 and we’re looking at $200 in a couple of months. Raising the prices raises another question of how does that influence the sales. Turns out life’s good for Nike and their LeBron brand. In 2012 LeBron sales reached a whooping $300 million while other lines reached $50 million for Kobe Bryant, $35 million for Kevin Durant, $25 million for Derrick Rose. The gap is very big, but just to put things in perspective the whole Jordan Brand is still on another level with $2 billion in 2012. As for the LeBrons it was all about the Nike LeBron X with a big increase over the LeBron 9. All info is provided courtesy of SportsOneSource analyst Matt Powell. Initially, there were only four basic colorways of the Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite. Of course, LeBron James debuted his own Miami Heat PEs pack during the 2012 NBA Playoffs, which included four Home/Away pairs and one Finals make up. On top of that Nike decided to re-design the Finals edition, add some MVP emblems and release, kind of, the fifth colorway. Long after the season has ended King James debuted some new PEs, which included 4 new stylesChina, Galaxy, Cannon and Tennis Balls. All this adds up to an impressive collection of LeBron 9 P.S. colorways. Today, almost a year after the launch of the 9 PS, we get a look at a previously unseen “Statue of Liberty” PE. This theme has been previously seen on the Nike Air Max Hyperposite. Thanks to theheatcheck.com for sharing.

Last season, Nike released four colorways of the Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite, but unfortunately it was only four. That’s really too bad, because LBJ’s 2012 Playoffs shoes are still one of my all time favorites. Our dreams were crushed down when we realized the Finals MVP edition was not going to happen. Apart from the four, LBJ wore some sick Miami Heat PEs on his way to the first NBA title. There were a couple of interesting samples and here’s a closer look at an alternate version of the “Taxi” colorway. The changes are very subtle. It’s basically a different color on the tongue and altered labels (LEBRON 9 PS, Flywire+Kevlar). Continue reading for more shots and take a detailed look at the GR version. Big thanks to Justin for sharing his pics!

During the last summer LeBron James shared a pretty unique design on the Nike LeBron 9 Low dubbed as “LeBronold Palmer“. Shoes that are inspired by Arnold Palmer’s famous part-tea, part-lemonade beverage. Later that year they surfaced as a Friends & Family PE, which resulted in a much better look. Today we get our first look at an alternate colorway of the same design. Unlike the previous version (Lemonade?), the new sample (Tea?) features a predominantly teal upper accented by orange and yellow details. What are your thoughts on this second “LeBronold” make up? Continue reading for a complete comparison.

Seeing these again brings back bad memories. It reminds me that Nike didn’t allow us to witness LeBron James’ legendary 2011-12 season the proper sneakerhead way. Something they did for Kobe Bryant year in and year out in his recent years with the Swoosh. We’re talking MVP shoes, NBA Finals shoes, Finals MVP shoes and of course Championship shoes. Call me crazy, but I actually think Nike would drop the Nike LeBron 9 MVP edition if King James didn’t get the chip. After all these shoes were announced to drop in June of last year. Things might get better with the upcoming Cork release, but all the buzz around them as well as the $305 MSRP is not looking good either. Anyway, turns out the MVP 9′s were designed in three different colorways. Joining the Quickstrike version (Yellow Plate) and LBJ’s PE (Gold Plate) is this new Black Midsole sample. It has recently surfaced on eBay in the classic sample size 9. Check out all 3 styles after the break and feel free to browse through the other 60+ LeBron 9′s.

Recently, LeBron James joined Miami Heat teammate Shane Battier for his 2nd Annual “South Beach Battioke” in Miami. The team karaoke event benefits the Battier Take Charge Foundation, dedicated to providing resources for the development and education of underserved youth and teens. LeBron performed a rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You” before teaming up with Dwyane Wade to serenade a guest with Shai’s “If I Ever Fall In Love.” For Battier’s event, LeBron laced up the unreleased “War Vet” colorway of the Nike LeBron 9 Low. Designed by DJ Clark Kent, the shoes feature a camouflage upper, contrasting orange details and a gum rubber outsole. Before that LBJ was spotted at the 43rd Annual Three Kings Day Parade in Miami over the weekend wearing the University of Oregon version of the Zoom Jet Turf. Which look do you like best?
