Release Reminder: Nike LeBron X Jade Goes Global »
A Chinese proverb states, “There is a price for gold, but no price for jade.” In Chinese culture, Jade is a symbol of immortality, representing five aspirational virtues: charity, modesty, courage, justice and wisdom. Given the stone’s precious value and significance, it is used ceremoniously in ornaments and decorations for blessings of both protection and prosperity. This is fitting, seeing as jade’s beauty is only surpassed by its durability. Jade can’t be cut with ordinary tools. It’s harder than steel. For centuries, slabs have been cut by a manual saw, adorned with one of the few harder substances than jade: diamonds. This, of course, served as inspiration for the “Cutting Jade” LeBron X. LeBron James is one of, if not the hardest substances in the league. No matter how large, nor how strong the competition, he remains unaffected as they seemingly bounce off him with every drive, dunk and block. The colorway is highlighted with red lacing, honoring the Chinese tradition of wrapping gifts of jade with red ribbon, along with a storytelling panel encapsulating the cutting process. Following a limited drop in October, Nike launches a broader release starting today.
