Nike LeBron 9back to top

Pros: LockdownLow-Top: Yes
Cons: Less paddingSizing: 0.5 to 1 size small
Weight: 16.4 oz. (466 grams)Retail: $170
Key tech: Hyperfuse, Flywire 3.0, Pro Combat, Zoom Air, Max Air.
Overview: A reflection of LeBron’s versatile style of play, the LEBRON 9 integrates Flywire technology and Hyperfuse construction in the upper for superior support, along with a combination of Max Air 180 and a Nike Zoom unit for comfortable and responsive cushioning. The shoe is the first to combine Flywire technology and Hyperfuse construction. Built for breathability and durability, the Hyperfuse construction is a composite of three different layers of material that are fused together to create a nearly seamless, one piece upper that sheds considerable weight without sacrificing protection. A midfoot harness that wraps around the foot incorporates Flywire 3.0 technology for added strength and lock down support. The finely-tuned midsole provides a unique hybrid cushioning system by combining Max Air 180 in the heel for absorption on impact with a Nike Zoom unit in the forefoot for a springy response. A composite shank plate provides torsional rigidity and support while reducing midsole weight. Additional elements such as engineered textile wings, Nike Pro Combat inspired padding in the inner collar, asymmetrical lacing, heel pull tab, outrigger for lateral stability, and flex grooves in the outsole complete the tech specs. Signature style including LeBron’s new logo, his signature on the ventilated tongue, and a special outsole pattern are special nods to LeBron himself.

    Nike LeBron 8back to top

Pros: Comfort, 360 Max Air, LockdownLow-Top: Yes
    Cons: N/ASizing: Small (V1), True (V2)
    Weight: 17.7 oz. (503 grams)Retail: $160
Key tech: Basketball-specific 360-degree Max Air unit, Flywire.
Overview: On this one-of-a-kind court shoe, the traditional Swoosh is revamped, pushed toward the heel in a unique loop design to symbolize LeBron’s speed. On the tongue, a detailed lion graphic represents his ravenous, hunter-like nature, and a signature label takes inspiration from his off-court attire. To create zonal support, Nike designers put a plastic frame around the Flywire-which is made of super-strong, ultra-lightweight nylon fibers in the upper part of the shoe-for lightweight lockdown only where you need it. They also left extra space between the collar and heel, allowing more room to flex the Achilles during intense man-to-man matchups. This hoops shoe radiates style with its luxurious, supple and all-natural leather, classically crafted and molded to resemble the shell of a dress shoe. An alternating lace formation not only looks good on the court but also enhances the fit, with the top eyelet in a dual-pull design shaped like an eight. The LeBron 8 is built on a basketball-specific Max Air 360 unit, offering maximum protection and cushioning during quick cuts and jumps. A comfortable Phylon midsole works with the Max Air cushioning to help provide a softer footstrike and smoother ride to the hoop.

Nike Zoom LeBron VIback to top

    Pros: Lightweight, Cushioning, ComfortLow-Top: Yes
Cons: Lacing systemSizing: True to size
    Weight: 16.8 oz. (477 grams)Retail: $140
Key tech: Double-stacked Zoom Air Unit, Carbon-fiber cup in the heel
Overview: Quickness meets power! The Zoom LeBron VI performance basketball shoe represents the essence of LeBron James: team, toughness, passion and vision. James worked with Nike designer Ken Link to create a shoe that meets his performance needs and the needs of players with a powerful, dynamic style of play. The Zoom LeBron VI not only has a full-length Zoom Air unit in the mid-sole for the ultimate responsive ride, but also has a Zoom Air unit double-stacked in the heel. The cushioning system helps the forefoot for transition when jumping. Deep sipes in the shoe allow for natural motion, which means the shoe works with the athlete’s movement, rather than against it. The shoe’s collar has been engineered with a wider opening so it’s easier to slip on and wear while maintaining a full-length fit feel. On the collar, graffiti art highlights LeBron’s mantras – passion, family, winning, fearless and vision.

Key tech: Full-length Zoom Air unit, Dynamic straps
Overview: If there were any doubt that Lebron James lineup is now the flagship of Nike Basketball, one simply need to look at the upcoming Lebron III. The 3rd iteration of the signature shoe has all grown up while retaining much of the same success that has made it so popular in the first place. Look for cues carried from the Air Jordan XI for the upper and visible Zoom Max at the midsole. The material and workmanship has also improved – which had been one of the most complained about element of the Air Zoom Generation and Lebron II. Nike also provided flexibility around the ankle area with a formula that reminded us of the T-MAC II. Also, flex grooves are added at the sole for maximum traction and ease of wear. This is easily the best SOLE design of any Nike Shoe in the past 3-4 years.

Nike Zoom LeBron IIback to top

Pros: Fit, Cushioning, Court FeelLow-Top: Yes
Cons: Durability (Zoom Air unit), TractionSizing: This shoe runs small
    Weight: 18.1 oz. (513 grams)Retail: $125
Key tech: Full-length Zoom Air unit, Removable straps
Overview: The Lebron II takes a whole new direction from the Hummer H2 inspired Air Zoom Generation. The shoe has both a modern and retro feel to design and technology. Full length blow molded air cushioning system now gives the shoe an ultra plush ride. A removable strap (with a huge swoosh) is bound to make those Air Force 1 fans happy. For those not feeling the large strap, laser etched design featuring a lion’s head (King James) and LBJ 23 is carved on to the leather. This is also Nike’s way of responding to the counterfeit shoes on the market. The design of the sole causes the shoe to slip when doing hard cutting and planting. The box has the laser etched design and is one of the best designed shoe boxes ever by Nike. Comfort is excellent with the exception of the tongue being a little too short and slides down during play. Finally, beware of cushioning softness over a long period of time. The Zoom Max Air seems to lose steam after prolonged wears even though it is excellent when brand new. Overall, $125 retail is actually quite reasonable and certainly recommended for any serious baller or Lebron fan.

    Pros: Lightweight, VentilationLow-Top: Yes
Cons: Ankle support, CushioningSizing: True to size
    Weight: 16.2 oz. (460 grams)Retail: $110
Key tech: Nike Sphere, Zoom Air (forefoot) + Air Unit (heel)
Overview: The Air Zoom Generation is a light-weight, flexible, breathable and ultra-comfortable shoe that will make you forget you even had them on. Sphere technology wicks moisture away from the foot. Certainly a shoe fit for a King. Lebron’s signature shoe is reasonably priced at $110. It is pound for pound one of the best value for performance-luxury shoe in 2004. Some of the complaints include: Sphere interior lining gets dirty quick. Traction remains to be desired on non-clean surfaces. Where’s the ZOOM in Zoom Generation? The cushioning is not as responsive as most Zoom Air shoes. Ankle support could also be improved.

    Pros: Lightweight(!), CushioningLow-Top: No
    Cons: N/ASizing: True to size
    Weight: 14.05 oz. (398 grams)Retail: $110
Key tech: Zoom Air (forefoot + heel), Midfoot straps
Overview: The Nike Zoom Soldier III basketball shoe is inspired by the LeBron James Signature Collection as well as his aggressive style of play during the Playoffs. Constructed to be lower to the ground and extremely responsive, the Nike Zoom Solider III weighs in at a mere 14.05 ounces, the lightest basketball shoe Nike has delivered to LeBron James, to date. The Nike Zoom Soldier III features a mesh upper for lightweight breathability. Two synthetic-leather straps across the top of the mid-foot provide a stable, lock-down fit and add the stylish look. The mid-sole is comprised of Nike Zoom Air units in the heel and forefoot for lightweight, responsive cushioning, but also a luxury ride. A non-traditional solid rubber outsole with flex grooves provides unmatched traction and durability as well as flexibility to help enhance natural motion. Carrying on a tradition from the previous generation, the Nike Zoom Soldier III represents the essence of LeBron James: team, toughness, passion and vision. On the sockliner is LeBron’s credo for family and his pride for the game of basketball. On the back of the tongue is an image of a lion, representing LeBron’s aggressiveness on the court. LeBron’s signature is included on the heel of each shoe and his number 23 adorns the tops of the eyelets.

Overview: Zoom LBJ Ambassador II is part of the LeBron James collection. Main purpose for it is the mid-price point shoe so it’s very accessible. It’s specifically designed for outdoor basketball. The goal for the Ambassador 2 was to cross appeal for on and off the court. It’s valuable for those who go play basketball directly after school. Comparing them to the first installment the upper is more flexible… achieved by using less layers all around. The new Ambassador borrows DNA from LeBron’s signature shoes: thick stitching from the ZLVI, ballistic nylon from the ZLII, L23 logo on the tongue from the ZLIV. The height of the shoe is a 5/8 cut, which offers better ankle mobility. The bottom is a full XDR rubber outsole – super durable!

Overview: Designed for outdoor basketball with feedback from Chinese ballplayers, the Ambassador joins the 20-5-5s and the Soldiers as one of the most durable sneakers in the game. Nowadays, most of the shoes are designed for indoors only and can’t survive a beating on the blacktop. Gladly, Nike and LeBron are constantly developing the outdoor shoes, that with all the usual tech inside (front and back Zoom Air) and a very durable outsole (this time it is the XDR – Xtra Durable Rubber), are almost indestructible and a good performer as well. The Nike Zoom LBJ Ambassador is exclusive to Asia region.
