LeBron James is becoming as aggressive with his investments as he is on the basketball court. The 22-year-old Cavaliers star has acquired a minority interest in Cannondale Bicycle Corp., a performance-bike manufacturer, the Connecticut-based company said Monday. James teamed up with Cannondale last year for his annual summer King for Kids Bike-a-thon charity event in Akron. Cannondale built James a custom bike for the event that he now uses as part of his off-season training. Today, privately held Cannondale says it’s the leading manufacturer of high-end bicycles, selling more than 80 models in more than 70 countries. The Cannondale investment was made through James’ company, LRMR Innovative Marketing & Branding.
Many celebrities attended last year’s Bikeathon including Amare Stoudemire, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Tracy McGrady, Chris Paul, Rip Hamilton, LeBron’s coach Mike Brown and his Cavaliers teammates Donyell Marshall, Eric Snow, Larry Hughes, Ira Newble.
