2016 has been a breakthrough year for Nike Basketball. The prices of their signature sneakers, especially within the Nike LeBron collection, were on the rise ever since the debut of Air Zoom Generation that was priced at $110.
Nike entered the $160 price range back in 2009 with the LeBron VII, but in 2012 a very tough call was made on the Elite 9’s which retailed at a record-setting $250. After that the 10’s play around with the idea of having a $200 signature shoe in stores, which was made real for the LeBron 11-13.
This boosted the Elites out to the moon with a MSRP of $260-300. It seemed like the was no going back. Fortunately Nike came to their senses. First this year’s low-tops dropped from $175 to $150. Now the Elite 13’s are finally “cheap” and cost only $200… same as regular price for LeBron James’ main signature shoe.
All I can say now is thank you Nike for making the right decision! Life is good again. Now it makes even less sense to buy Jordan retros, which still seem to heading the other direction… more money, less quality.
