Improve Your LeBron Six Experience – Change The Laces!

If you read our Zoom LeBron VI Review, you know that we’ve had only two complaints about this sneaker regarding its basketball properties – traction wasn’t as good as it should be, and poor lacing system, which didn’t provide enough lockdown. As for the first issue, the only thing you can do is… play on clean courts. However, there’s always something you can do about the lacing setup. For example… change the laces. In the case of the Soldier II drilling an additional hole was the solution, but this time it’s much simpler. Click the ‘Read the rest of this entry’ link for more information and a quick step by step photo tutorial exclusively from NikeLeBron.net.

From LeBron 6

I’ve always felt VI’s original laces are WEAK simply put. The shoe itself contains of a double layered tongue and also a double layered collar, which is where the top two eyelets are placed. While the double layer thing adds to the comfort, it also adds unnesesary material, which becomes a problem when you want to tie your shoes really tight. One of the things you can do is don’t run the strings through both layers of the collar. Just use the inner loop and you’ll feel the difference right away. After that it’s indeed a little better, but why stop there? Last year, when the Zoom LeBron V debuted on the market, the way how it wrapped around your feet was really impressive. There are two reasons for that – Phyposite Footbucket and strong, flat, stretchy laces. Oh yeah… the midfoot strap was there too, but even without it the lockdown was there. So if you have any Vs lying around the house, beat up after the last season, take the laces out and apply them to the VI. You will be blown away… I guarantee you that! Suddenly, the shoe gives in and adjusts itself to your feet wrapping them around from each side. If you think it can’t be that much of a difference… please try it. Now if only there was an easy way to get the ZLV laces without actually buying the shoes?! Of course you can use other strings that you feel are strong enough to withstand the double layered ZLVI, but the V’s did a really good job. After that, The Six experience, as good as it was, is much better. Definitely recommended for all basketball players.

  • I figured this one out myself. Dont change the laces just change the way you lace them. Use over and under it works great try it.

  • i actually think these laces are great - i only laced the top lace through the inner sock to get more leverage on the laces...works great. have played at least 10/15 games in em.

    still like my Vs though...

I know it's better that way... but switching them for V's is still much better. MUCH BETTER.

  • after further playing in my lebron VI,
my left heel got blister, it's weird that the heel cup are very very low in this
but when i runs my finger on the inner liner i don't feel any roughness, but still my left heel scuffed badly, and the interesting part is that my right is okay.
    is there any solution ?
i'm thinkin to wear ankle sleeve to thinken the cushion or band aid or some foam that are meant for formal leather shoes.

anyway the shoes are okay, quite comfortable and does not feel heavy, but the low heel cup problem preventing me to wear it this moment.
i have to wear my trusty VC III in the mean times till my heel cures, then i'll try the LB VI again.

does anyone suffer from this as well ?

  • Yeah, when I played in the chalks I tightened the laces and it never felt like a "lockdown". I figured that it was probably because the shoe has the two layers which makes it more bulky than previous lebrons. I was still able to play in them for 2 games so far. It wasn't much of an impact for me to change the laces, but that is a good thing to know. But my V's are the St. Mary's so the green and blue wouldn't fly. LOL! I wish the laces were better made though. When I was tighting them it like they where going to fall apart because of the weave styling. It looks good though, but seems fragile. I do have to say that the VI has nothing in comparison to the kobe IV. That is a great shoe! But the VI are still fly!

  • I need replacement laces and want the originals - how do I get hold of Lebron VI (White/Red) laces? I snapped mine within a few weeks of use trying to tie them up tightly - if only I'd seen this thread - I would have changed the way I laced them then maybe wouldn't have snapped them. Anyway I really want the original laces, is it possible? Or will I just have to buy a random set of laces from somewhere? Cheers, Mike

  • Over and under. It is very easy. Extremely comfortable shoes. I like the lebron vi better than the kobe iv because of the cushioning. The kobe iv are very light but the lebron vi is still pretty light and more cushioned.
