Nike took the unusual step of pulling one of its marquee sneakers – the LEBRON 12 – from the market on the day it had been scheduled for release, citing quality-control issues. The shoe had been targeted for release today (Wednesday) in China and Oct. 11 globally. Nike published its standard news sneaker release about the shoe, accompanied by photographs. But by Wednesday afternoon, the news release text was preceded by this message in bold type…

Product quality is a priority for Nike. Due to a small cosmetic issue with some of the LEBRON 12 shoes we have delayed the initial retail launch that was scheduled for China on October 1, and the global launch that was scheduled for October 11. We will communicate an update on the retail date as soon as possible.

Nike had aimed to avoid any controversy with this shoe after James refused for parts of last season to wear a previous version, the LEBRON 11, over sizing and fit issues. The sneaker world will undoubtedly be staring a James’ feet Wednesday night, seeing what kind of shoes are on his feet for the much-anticipated Cleveland Cavaliers intrasquad scrimmage. Stay tuned for more updated on this matter.
