LeBron James to Wear Nike Hypedunk 2012 in London Olympics »

Earlier today Nike has announced that “LeBron James wil be rocking the new Nike Hyperdunk this summer”. It will be the first time for King James to wear a non-signature shoe during his professional career as a basketball player. The Hyperdunk 2012 is a part of the Nike Lunarlon Collection. An innovative combination of advanced NIKE Flywire technology and a basketball-specific NIKE Lunarlon cushioning system. Other stars of the USA Basketball team, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant, will wear their signature shoes – Nike Zoom Kobe VII and Nike Zoom KD IV, respectively. Hopefully this will make more sense in the upcoming weeks.

Redemption Mission Accomplished. LeBron Gets the Gold! »

For Jason Kidd, Team USA’s oldest player, and LeBron James and Chris Paul, two of its youngest, Sunday’s victory was the culmination of years of work toward redemption for the U.S. and the NBA. “That’ll probably go down as one of the greatest Olympic games ever,” LeBron James said after Team USA’s thrilling 118-107 victory over Spain earned it the gold medal Sunday. The moment he received his medal, James reached down, grabbed it and stared at it. He held it inches from his eyes and just gazed at it, transfixed. And when they handed him a bouquet of red roses, he held them to his nose and inhaled two huge breaths, the sweet smell of victory filling his nostrils and lungs. It was an overwhelming sight to behold, the possession of those gold medals made so much more fulfilling because of what had transpired on the court for 40 immensely entertaining minutes. The members of Team USA didn’t just win their gold medals, they earned them against the first opponent that finally gave them a game. They didn’t dominate in the final game; they performed. They didn’t nearly blow it; they closed it out. And when all the members of Team USA sat together after taking over that podium, their faces showed pure, unadulterated pride and gratification — a gratification that wouldn’t have been nearly as strong if they hadn’t had to face such a tough final test and pass it with flying colors. “What you saw today was a team bonding together, facing adversity and coming out with a huge win,” Bryant said. Said James: “If it wasn’t for the determination and willpower we had, we wouldn’t be back on top of the world, which is where we are.” Anthony, who along with Wade, James and Carlos Boozer were the only returnees from the 2004 U.S. Olympic team, summed it up: “We were at America’s lowest point in ’04, and to have put USA Basketball back at the top of the world, it couldn’t feel better.” The 2008 team was a Redeem Team in every sense, and the sights and sounds of that redemption — both during the game and after it — will last each of them a lifetime. USA Men Overpower Argentina and Advance to Gold Medal Game »

The 2008 U.S. Men’s Olympic Team watched its 30-11 first quarter lead dwindle to six points late in the second period before regaining control in the second half with a balanced scoring attack that saw seven U.S. players finish in double figures to help the USA overpower Argentina 101-81 and advance to Sunday’s gold medal game Friday night at Wukesong Arena in Beijing, China. “It’s always a great honor to play Argentina,” said USA and Duke University head coach Mike Krzyzewski. “Internationally, over the last decade, they have been as good as anybody in the world. They play with the heart of champions, and we knew we were in for a tough game today. Our guys were ready to play and we feel really good to beat Argentina by 20 points. I’m pleased with that. I’m certainly pleased with playing in the gold medal game.” Info via USAB.

U.S. Advances to Semis. United We Rise Soldier II Debut. »

In a game that some thought was a cause for worry, the U.S. Men’s Senior National Team beat Australia by just 11 in an Aug. 5 exhibition in Shanghai. Fifteen days later, in a game that counted, the U.S. gave a performance more indicative of their ability, trouncing Australia 116-85 in the Olympic quarterfinals at the Wukesong Culture and Sports Center. And they did it with a slightly different formula than they had used in their five pool play wins. The U.S. had forced an average of 22.8 turnovers per game against Group B, but Australia committed just 11 on Wednesday. And while the U.S. had outrebounded their pool play opponents by just over two boards per game, they destroyed Australia on the glass, 57-28. Next up is Argentina, who defeated Greece 80-78 in a thrilling nightcap, in Friday’s semifinal (10:15 a.m. ET, NBC). It’s a rematch of the 2004 semifinal in Athens, won by Argentina 89-81. The bronze finish in ’04 is why the U.S. turned to Jerry Colangelo, and why he put together the three-year commitment program led by Krzyzewski. After wearing the United We Rise Street Map PE and the Friendlies Zoom Soldier II throughout the first five games, LeBron James broke out the well known United We Rise Tribal edition. Probably this special shoe required some special crowd and intensity of the elimination round. Also, visit the updated 2007-08 Timeline and be sure to check back tomorrow for an extensive coverage of the UWR Zoom Soldier II. As always plenty of pictures from today’s game after the jump. U.S.A. Basketball Squad Dominates Germany and Finishes Pool Field »

The U.S. opened the game on a 20-3 run and cruised to a 106-57 victory at the Wukesong Culture and Sports Center. Germany scored on just one of its first 14 possessions, turning the ball over four times along the way. The fourth was a LeBron James steal that led to a fast break where Kobe Bryant fed a trailing James for an emphatic hammer dunk, capping the 20-3 start for the U.S. Germany turned the ball over six times in the opening 10 minutes and the U.S. led by 19 after the first quarter. So, the U.S. finished pool play the way they should have, with a 49-point win that pushes their average margin of victory to 32.2 points per game. And now, the games really count, with a single-elimination, eight-team tournament that begins Wednesday. As the No. 1 seed in Group B, the U.S. will face Australia, the No. 4 seed out of Group A (8 a.m. ET, NBC). Five down. Three to go. The U.S. dominated Group B, but the business of winning the gold medal starts now.

King James and U.S.A. Team Handle Spain a Blowout Loss »

The U.S. Men’s Senior National Team should have no doubters now. Coming into Saturday’s much anticipated matchup with Spain, the U.S. had won their first three games comfortably, but they’d done it while shooting just 29 percent from three point range and just 64 percent from the foul line. The doubters thought that poor shooting would be their eventual downfall. Others wondered what would happen if they started shooting well. Well, what would happen is that they would beat Spain by 37 points. The victory clinched first place in Pool B for the Americans, who complete opening round play against Germany on Monday, then they likely face Australia in the quarterfinals, then Argentina or Lithuania in the semifinals. James could find only one fault with Team USA’s performance, saying it had three or four unforced errors when it tried to force outlet passes to the point guards when Spain hung back on defense. But he rated this overall performance as superior to the one two nights earlier against Greece. “We didn’t shoot the ball particularly well against Greece, from the free-throw line or the 3-point line,” James said. “But we shot 45 percent from 3 and almost 80 at the line, so that’s a plus. We know we’re going to defend, we know we’re going to get fast-break points, but when we can shoot the ball from the outside like that, and shoot free throws, it’s going to be tough for anybody to beat us.” Info via NBA.com.

Team USA Gets a Taste of Redemption Against Greece »

Powerful dunks. Ridiculous rejections. LeBron leads the team in moves meant only for video games. It’s official now. This is NOT Japan and the 2006 World Championships, not to mention Athens and the 2004 Olympics. This is Beijing and the 2008 Olympics, and the U.S. is back in men’s basketball. These Americans, who looked so lost two years ago at the World Championship in Japan, appear to have found their Olympic way in China. “Every night we want to play well, but we got better as a team tonight,” said Wade, who augmented his six steals with 17 points, three rebounds and five assists in just 20 minutes. James’ line was equally impressive (13 points, six rebounds, six assists, three blocks), Bosh finished 7-for-8 for 18 points with five rebounds, and Bryant tied for a game-high 18 points. “When we can get a stop on the defensive end and get out and run, until you get out on the court with us you can’t really understand how fast we are as a team,” James said. So with this piece of redemption out of their way, the Americans now must turn their focus to an even better team that awaits them late Saturday night, Beijing time (10:15 a.m. ET). The opponent is Spain, which also sits at 3-0 in these Olympics, and the size and talent level will be much bigger than what Team USA faced in Thursday night’s 92-69 victory. Info via ESPN.

King James’ All-Around Performance Helps U.S. Beat Angola »

LeBron James and his teammates easily shoved Angola aside. Now come the teams that can push back. Dwyane Wade scored 19 points, James dominated the game with his size and strength on both ends, and the U.S. Olympic team wrapped up the easy portion of its schedule with a 97-76 victory Tuesday night. The Americans (2-0) moved on to face Greece, who stunned the United States 101-95 two years ago in the semifinals of the world championship in Japan. This U.S. team is much deeper, and James is a whole lot stronger. James hadn’t done much offensively midway through the second quarter when he made his presence felt on the other end, jumping so high to block Felizardo Ambrosio’s shot that it looked more like a volleyball spike, with James glaring back at the fallen Ambrosio as the ball went out of bounds. The Angolans were down only seven with less than 4 minutes remaining in the half when James simply muscled them out of the way. After Wade’s 3-pointer, James went all the way for a layup, then knocked Leonel Paulo backward to grab a loose ball and convert a three-point play that made it a safe game after that.
